Premier says gas restrictions unwarranted

Mandatory restrictions are not needed to cope with WA’s gas supply crisis, Premier Alan Carpenter says.

A group of 20 mining and energy sector executives met in Perth today to discuss strategies to deal with the 30 per cut to the state's energy supply after a fire at Apache Energy's Varanus Island facility on Tuesday.

Apache says it may be months before a limited supply could be returned.

Mr Carpenter said there was no suggestion emergency services, such as hospitals, were being adversely affected.
