CO2 plan threatens new coal power plant
Alok Jha and Terry Macalister , The Guardian, 13 Jun 2008Britain's most controversial power project, the £1.5bn coal-fired plant at Kingsnorth, faces an uncertain future as a result of a tough greenhouse gas emissions standard that will be proposed by David Cameron next week.
The proposals will make new coal-fired power stations unbuildable unless they incorporate new clean technology known as carbon capture and storage (CCS). This strips out CO2 and buries it deep underground to prevent global warming.
