Feds may take over petrol supplies

THE Federal Government could take control of the nation's petrol, diesel and natural gas supplies as the Western Australian gas crisis deepens.

Resources Minister Martin Ferguson raised the prospect in parliament today.

He has the power to take charge of the production and transfer of petroleum products - although he's hoping he won't have to.

"While I sincerely hope that this will not be required, the Liquid Fuel Emergency Act provides authority for the Australian Government to prepare for and manage a national liquid fuel supply emergency," Mr Ferguson said. ... Read full article
