Mexico imposes price controls on food
Adam Thomson in Mexico City, Financial Times , 18 Jun 2008Mexico’s centre-right government on Wednesday announced the widest range of price controls in more than a decade in an attempt to curb rising food prices.
The price of 150 basic food stuffs, including processed beans, cooking oil, tinned tuna and fruit juices, have been frozen with immediate effect, until the end of the year.
On Wednesday, President Felipe Calderón said: “It is a measure that will benefit positively and directly millions of Mexicans . . . this reflects the commitment Mexican business people have to the country and to price stability. ... Read full article
