Renewable electricity targets 'wholly inadequate', says MPs committee
Paul Eccleston, The Daily Telegraph, 19 Jun 2008Targets for renewable electricity are wholly inadequate but even they won't be reached unless the Government becomes more dynamic and develops a clearer game plan, MPs have said.
Funding for new technology research is too complex, planning consent takes too long, access to the electricity grid is limited and there is a skills shortage, it is claimed.
The criticism comes in a new report from the Innovation, Universities, Science and Skills Committee (IUSSC) which said the UK should learn lessons from Germany and reward householders who install energy producing equipment - such as combined heat and power boilers - in their own homes. ...
