Renewable electricity targets 'wholly inadequate', says MPs committee

Targets for renewable electricity are wholly inadequate but even they won't be reached unless the Government becomes more dynamic and develops a clearer game plan, MPs have said.

Funding for new technology research is too complex, planning consent takes too long, access to the electricity grid is limited and there is a skills shortage, it is claimed.

The criticism comes in a new report from the Innovation, Universities, Science and Skills Committee (IUSSC) which said the UK should learn lessons from Germany and reward householders who install energy producing equipment - such as combined heat and power boilers - in their own homes. ...
