Brown calls on oil producers to invest in renewable energy

Prime Minister Gordon Brown revealed yesterday the scale of investment needed under the government's new Renewable Energy Strategy, which should be published later this week.

Speaking at the international oil summit in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Mr Brown said £100 billion would be needed to hit Britain's renewable energy targets now being set by Europe.

But, he argued for an approach to alternative power that would not "hurt" oil producers, and actively urged oil firms to get involved in the move towards cleaner energy sources. ... Read full article
