Libya agreed a deal with Ukraine yesterday to use a 100,000 hectare area to grow wheat. The deal was signed after Libya promised to invest in a new refinery in Ukraine and supply crude oil to the country. The UN has warned that the so-called farmland grab trend could leave poor farmers without access to fertile soil and water.
